The TOP 100 Greatest Ever ROCK Frontmen: PAT BENATAR.
Rise up ladies and gentlemen. Its 55 time. Get 'Fired Up' and give a warm welcome to the one, the only Patricia Mae Giraldo! What? Who? We all know her better as PAT BENATAR.
Our mate Sun-Pat is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and four-time Grammy Award winner. She has two RIAA-certifiedmulti-platinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums, and 15 Billboard Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", "Love Is a Battlefield", "We Belong", and "Invincible". Not too shabby huh?!
Pat, at one time, was probably most peoples favorite female pop rock icon of the 1980s. Best known for her hit single "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," she has two multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums, and 15 Billboard Top 40 singles.
Many fans have followed her journey and career path, but aren't aware of some lesser known facts that make the singer that much cooler. Here are some interesting, or not so interesting, tidbits you probably never knew, or wanted to, about Pat Benatar.
She was discovered on an amateur night whilst performing at a comedy club in New York City. Terry Ellis, working for Chrysalis Records, in 1977 popped in for a pie and a pint and heard her voice as it completely knocked the froth off his pint (probably). This was pretty much her big break to any kind of stardom.
Millie, or as Pat knew her, Mummy, was a trained opera vocalist just like Pat. Millie instilled her talent into Pat, who then went onto Julliard in NYC to study music. Bet they knock out a cracking ditty of Nessun Dorma after a few lager shandies at Christmas!
Pat married high school boyfriend Dennis Benatar in 1972. The couple moved to Virginia where Dennis was stationed in the army, and Pat worked as a bank teller for some time. Bet she cheated at Monopoly though! The banker always cheats!
One of the Grammy awards presented to several different nominees over the years was Best Female Rock Vocals Benatar, however, won this award three years in a row, from 1980 to 1983. Well deserved for narrowly defeating Miss Piggy each time.
She took on the last name "Benatar" after her first marriage, and it really just stuck with her. However, she was originally born with the name Patricia Andrzejewski. Being Pat Benatar is a bit easier for those Disc Jockeys of old to say than Pat AndreandhisJetski I guess?!
One of her most popular singles, "Love is a Battlefield," had the first music video ever to feature dialogue. It was the first-ever music video integrated with actual spoken words. Hopefully she is still receiving royalties from the likes of Meatloaf and Twisted Sister for starting this!
Like many, I have heard of Pat and like some of her stuff, but also like many, I have no idea what she was like live or as a front person? She definitely has something about her and she has the voice and tunes to back that 'something' up. Lets just say I wouldn't kick her out of the poll for starting an argument . I am sure she held her own on stage.
It's open mic time for you guys now as I down poll-tools and take a well deserved break until next week. Until such....be kind, be gentle to the artists that appear here. They are delicate little so and so's and take your comments personally!
